If you own property within the designated Emporia Downtown Historic District, you may qualify for tax credits on maintenance, upgrades, or historic redevelopment projects.
Downtown Emporia was designated as a historic district in 2012, after an application process led by Emporia Main Street. The historic district was formed to enhance downtown's architectural integrity, encourage heritage tourism and provide building owners with additional resources to maintain and upgrade their facilities.
Great architecture can provide a business with significant advantages, and we want to provide all downtown property owners with the tools they need to preserve commercially viable buildings for future generations to enjoy.
Both Federal and State Historic Tax Credits, and some competitive grants, are available for qualifying structures in projects that adhere to National Parks Service guidelines. For additional information on historic tax credits and competitive grants, please visit kshs.org.
