Job Description

Position Overview:

As the Golf & Disc Golf Course Superintendent at Champions Landing, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of both the traditional golf course and the disc golf course. You will ensure that both courses are maintained to the highest standards, providing an exceptional experience for all players.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Course Maintenance:
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive maintenance plan for both the golf and disc golf courses.
    • Supervise and participate in all aspects of turfgrass management, including mowing, fertilization, irrigation, and pest control.
    • Implement sustainable practices to promote healthy turf and minimize environmental impact.
  2. Equipment Management:
    • Manage and maintain all equipment necessary for course maintenance, including mowers, aerators, and irrigation systems.
    • Coordinate equipment maintenance schedules to ensure proper functioning and longevity of machinery.
  3. Staff Management:
    • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of groundskeepers and maintenance staff.
    • Delegate tasks effectively and ensure that all team members adhere to safety protocols and best practices.
  4. Budgeting and Resource Management:
    • Develop and manage the annual budget for course maintenance operations.
    • Monitor expenses and identify opportunities for cost savings without sacrificing course quality.
  5. Course Improvement Projects:
    • Identify areas for improvement on both courses and develop plans for enhancements.
    • Oversee the implementation of improvement projects, such as re-surfacing greens or installing new tee boxes.
  6. Communication and Collaboration:
    • Maintain open communication with Champions Landing management, providing regular updates on course conditions and maintenance activities.
    • Collaborate with other departments, such as clubhouse staff and event coordinators, to ensure seamless operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience as a golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent, with knowledge of both traditional and disc golf course maintenance practices.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team and interact with members and staff.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial management.
  • Knowledge of turfgrass diseases, pests, and irrigation systems.
  • Certification or licensure in pesticide application and/or irrigation management is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and supplies.
  • Comfortable operating and maneuvering various types of machinery and equipment.
