Two Holiday recognition programs are back at Emporia Main Street- just in time for Christmas. This month, the non-profit organization re-launched the popular 2020 programs; Adopt-A-Newman Healthcare Hero and Teacher & Staff Holiday Gifts. Each initiative is designed to boost community spirit and support locally owned businesses.
Last year, with several students attending school remotely, it was hard to get Holiday gifts to those working in education.
“We knew we wanted to find a way to get gifts to school employees and make it easy on parents and friends,” explains Jessica Buchholz, Community Development Coordinator for Emporia Main Street. “We decided to offer an online ordering platform and a FREE delivery option. Emporia Main Street worked with USD 253 to deliver hundreds of gift certificates to area teachers and staff members. While most students are now back in the classroom, we know that this program still offers a great convenient gift option and provided shoppers a way to support our local businesses.”
Due to requests from additional educational institutions, the program has expanded to include staff of USD 253, Emporia Child Care, Lord’s Lamb Preschool, Emporia Christian School, and Sacred Heart School & Child Care Center. Orders need to be placed by December 16th.

In addition to educators, Emporia Main Street has partnered with Newman Regional Health to recognize those working in healthcare. Originally started in 2020 to boost staff morale, the Adopt-A-Newman Regional Healthcare Hero program provided an opportunity to say “Thank You” to those keeping the community healthy.
“While the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the nation and world, our amazing care providers at Newman Regional Health continue to provide great care to our community,” explains Buchholz. “This program is one way to show appreciation to those healthcare heroes, especially when many of these individuals are spending time at work and away from family during the holidays.”
Orders for the Adopt-A-Newman Regional Healthcare Hero can be place through December 21st, and certificates will be delivered to staff by Emporia Main Street and Newman Regional Health administrators.

Emporia Main Street Gift Certificates are accepted at over 200 businesses, and both programs offer purchasers the ability to send a special gift, while supporting small businesses. Many local retailers and entrepreneurs are still feeling the effects of the pandemic and shopping local is one of the best ways to show support.“Emporia Main Street does not charge a fee or take a cut of gift certificates,” explains Buchholz. “Member businesses can simply accept certificates from customers the same as cash, and then redeem the certificate at Emporia Main Street at full face value.”To place an order for either of these programs or to purchase traditional Emporia Main Street Gift certificates, shoppers can visit the Emporia Main Street office at 727 Commercial Street or purchase online at emporiamainstreet.com. Please contact Emporia Main Street at 620-340-6430 for more information.
