Summer reading program at the Emporia Public Library

The Emporia Public Library is thrilled to announce its highly anticipated Summer Reading Program 2024, set to kick off on May 29th and run through July 31st. Packed with an array of engaging activities and programs for all ages, this year’s calendar promises to ignite imaginations, foster a love for reading, and create lasting memories for the community.

This summer, the library is bringing back a community favorite: paper weekly reading logs available for kids, teens, and adults. Readers of all ages can track their progress in five-minute increments throughout the summer, redeeming their completed weekly logs for prizes along the way. Prefer to keep track electronically? Patrons can continue to use Beanstack to log their reading, and come in to collect their weekly prize.

In addition to weekly prizes, the Emporia Public Library is proud to present a diverse lineup of events and activities for all ages and interests. Wednesdays in June, families can enjoy Kids’ Koncerts at noon, featuring performances by musicians and a magician, sure to delight audiences of all ages. Please note that there will be no Kids’ Koncert on Juneteenth, as the library honors this important day of reflection and celebration.

For fans of immersive experiences, the library will host an epic Lord of the Rings themed escape room titled “Escape from Mordor”; for grades 3-5, 6-12, and adults. Participants will embark on a thrilling adventure inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved fantasy world, solving puzzles and riddles to break free from the clutches of darkness. Online registration opens two weeks prior to the event, on June 14.

Nature enthusiasts won’t want to miss a special presentation from Audubon of Kansas about birding for beginners on Monday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. Learn about local bird species, essential birdwatching techniques, and how to appreciate the beauty of avian life in our community.

Music lovers are in for a treat with a unique song-writing program and a special performance from Wichita-based folk band Pretend Friend on Monday, July 22nd at 3 and 6:30 p.m., respectively. Whether you’re a seasoned musician or a novice, this program offers a creative outlet for expressing yourself through music.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there! The Emporia Public Library has a jam-packed schedule of events, programs, and activities planned throughout the summer, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. From book clubs to craft sessions to movie nights, the Summer Reading Program promises to be a highlight of the season.
